Platform Features
Core capabilities of RescueTime
Automatic activity tracking across apps and websites
RescueTime logs time spent in applications and websites without manual entry, then categorizes activity by project, client, or task. This eliminates timesheet friction and reduces billing disputes by creating an audit trail of work performed.
Focus Sessions with distraction blocking
Team members can block distracting websites and apps during focused work blocks, with configurable goals and alerts. Agencies can position this as a productivity add-on to justify higher retainer fees or upsell to existing clients.
Billable rates and project-based timesheets
Set hourly or fixed rates per client and project, then generate timesheets and invoicing reports automatically. Team+ includes shared clients, projects, and tasks across team members, enabling multi-person project tracking without duplicate entries.
Team productivity and workload reports
View daily patterns, key tools used, and team calendar timelines to identify bottlenecks and rebalance workloads. Role-based access control lets agencies restrict reporting visibility by team member or client.
Multi-format exports for invoicing
Export timesheets and billable-hour reports as CSV, Excel, or raw data to feed into accounting software or client invoicing systems. Eliminates manual data re-entry between RescueTime and billing platforms.
Slack and Google Calendar integration
Native integrations with Slack and Google Calendar allow teams to log time and view schedules without leaving their existing tools. Also supports Trello, Asana, Jira, GitHub, and Zoom for broader workflow coverage.

Buy If
5Your agency bills clients on a project or hourly basis and needs automated timesheets to reduce manual time entry and invoicing errors.
You want to offer a focus-and-productivity tool as a white-label add-on to existing retainers, even if the branding shows RescueTime.
You manage 5+ client accounts and want a single platform to track billable hours, set rates per client, and generate CSV or Excel exports for invoicing.
Your team uses Asana, Jira, Slack, or Google Calendar and you want time data to flow into those tools without manual syncing.
You need to identify which team members are overallocated or underutilized across client projects to rebalance workloads.

5Your clients require HIPAA or FedRAMP compliance; RescueTime publishes SOC2 Type I but does not list healthcare or government certifications.
You need a fully white-labeled solution where client-facing reports and dashboards display your agency branding, not RescueTime's.
Your clients use time-tracking data in real-time dashboards or APIs; RescueTime's reporting is batch-based and does not expose live API endpoints for custom integrations.
You operate in a BYOD-restricted environment where clients cannot install background agents on personal or corporate devices.
You need per-project profitability analysis or margin tracking; RescueTime tracks billable hours and rates but does not calculate project costs or profit margins.
Bottom Line
RescueTime combines automatic time tracking with distraction blocking and project-based timesheet generation, making it relevant for creative, marketing, and software development agencies that bill by project or need workload visibility. The tool tracks time across apps and websites, integrates with Slack, Google Calendar, Asana, Jira, and other platforms, and generates billable-hour reports by client or task. Agencies can resell Team+ ($18/user/month) to clients needing transparent project costing and team capacity planning, though the tool does not offer white-label branding for client-facing portals.
Reality Check
RescueTime requires client teams to install and run a background tracking agent on each device, creating ongoing IT management overhead for agencies managing multiple client accounts. The tool does not publish white-label capabilities, so clients will see RescueTime branding in reports and dashboards, limiting positioning as a proprietary agency solution.

Why this category matters
The commercial case before the tooling.
Core concepts
The mental model you need to price and scope the work.
- Visible Artifact, Invisible ProcessConcept
AI productivity tools are the lowest-leverage category for agency revenue because clients can self-serve in minutes. The strategic angle is bundling them into a workflow redesign engagement where the tool is the visible artifact, but the billable work is the process design that surrounds it. This framework reframes the tool as a Trojan horse for higher-margin consulting. For example, an agency might deploy Calendly with AI scheduling for a client, but the real value is redesigning the client's intake and follow-up processes to reduce no-shows by 20%. The tool is the entry point; the process is the profit. Agencies that sell the tool alone compete on price; those that sell the process own the relationship.
- Artifact Over ArchitectureConcept
AI productivity tools are the lowest-leverage category for agency revenue because clients can self-serve in 90 seconds. The strategic value lies not in the tool itself but in the workflow redesign that surrounds it. Agencies that sell the tool as a standalone line item compete on price against direct subscriptions. Those that frame the tool as the visible artifact of a broader process engagement capture margin on the architecture: intake workflows, approval gates, and escalation paths. For example, a scheduling assistant like Calendly becomes the artifact, while the agency's real deliverable is the meeting-to-delivery pipeline it designs around it. With 45% of executives skipping AI oversight, agencies that bundle governance into the redesign answer a compliance need clients cannot solve alone. The tool is the hook; the process is the product.
- Visible Artifact, Billable ProcessConcept
AI productivity tools are the lowest-leverage category for agency revenue because clients can self-serve in minutes. The strategic angle is to treat the tool as a visible artifact while the billable work is the process design that surrounds it. For example, an agency might deploy Calendly for a client, but the real engagement is redesigning the meeting-to-delivery workflow, defining routing rules, and integrating calendar intelligence with project management. This framework shifts the agency from reselling software to selling operational transformation, where the tool is the proof of work, not the product. Recent research shows that 88% of B2B marketers face foundational gaps as AI agents reshape buyer discovery, making process design more critical than ever.
Decision and risk
How to judge the fit, and the ways it goes wrong.
- AI Productivity Rule: Sell the Redesign, Not the ToolEvaluation Rule
Bundle any AI productivity tool into a workflow redesign engagement where the tool is the visible artifact and the process design is the billable work.
- AI Productivity Rule: Price the Workflow, Not the SubscriptionEvaluation Rule
Sell a workflow redesign engagement where the AI tool is the visible artifact, and price the process design, not the license.
- Bundled Workflow Redesign vs Direct Tool ResaleDecision Framework
IF your agency can package AI productivity tools like Calendly, Google Workspace, or Zoom into a broader process redesign engagement, THEN pursue the bundled workflow redesign path. IF clients expect a quick tool subscription without strategic input, THEN skip the category entirely and focus on higher-leverage services.

What agencies say about RescueTime
“I've Been a User for Over a Decade”
I've been using RescueTime for over a decade and they have amazingly kept all my data for me despite me cancelling my subscription for years at a time. I don't like all the UI/UX decisions they've made more recently, but the application is solid and I feel safe having RT put some friction in my distracting activities.
Read on Trustpilot“RescueTime had my initial (ADHD) mixed…”
RescueTime had my initial mixed experience, but I found it takes you a while to get adapted to it. So, I have asked an AI what tools an ADHD person could leverage and it proposed RescueTime. So I was of course going up and down with the experience, but at the end, I found a yearly discount online and compared to what it does/did, it was worth it. It is not exactly a blocking app (i used freedom before), as it is more a monitoring app. But with time it kind of gets the hang of it and blocks stuff out that you probably shouldn't be doing. But compared to Freedom, you can bypass it by saying you want it anyway. The use of statistic is sometimes a bit tricky, but can be usefull. I am also using it as a reminder I was very productive yesterday (if integrated, it shows you on the previous day google calendar). So why not 5 stars: - You kind of get the impression, you would get a better AI developed insight, which you don't get to see, the AI just gets trained on what you do and what you should focus on and on what not. Perhaps it is one thing still to come? The other thing - that can be confusing from some of the reviews - there is a mobile app and a desktop app. This mobile however (so support for apple phones) does not sum up/combine/aggregate with the desktop version, due to Apple privacy policies. And while I do find IOS RescueTime quite useless without this aggregation (sorry), I do think the overall product (desktop) deserves at least a 4 star review nonetheless. For those trying it on the trial. 1) No, just as many (85% of the apps), they do not "warn" you again the day before the trial is up. So mark your 1 day before date on the calendar. 2) Make use of the whole trial. It does take a little bit of time to truly see the potential benefits of the app (=wait and if you don't like it use it till the end of the trial and cancel the day before). I did not like it that much at the start, then i kind of liked then not again, just before the end I decided it is usefull.
Read on Trustpilot“My two cents here.”
My two cents here. Rescuetime is not an "app blocking" app. This is not what it's made for. It's an app that can help you in understanding how you spend your time and makes you find time to do some "deep focus". Overall: it's used to improve your productivity. In addition, they have tools like the one that blocks distracting website. Unfortunately I had to request a refund because currently they don't track correctly subdomains, and this is a crucial feature for me. However, I appreciated the responsiveness, clarity and availability of their customer service. And the app itself is very nice: you install it, configure your job shift, integrate your calendar, and it works out of the box. Absolutely recommended.

Answers about pricing, setup, implementation
RescueTime automatically tracks time spent in applications and websites, blocks distracting sites during focus sessions, and generates project-based timesheets for billing. The tool integrates with Slack, Google Calendar, Asana, Jira, GitHub, Zoom, Trello, and Outlook, allowing teams to log time without manual entry and export billable-hour reports as CSV or Excel for invoicing.
RescueTime offers 4 pricing tiers, starting at $9/mo (Solo Focus) up to $18/mo per user (Team+). Agencies typically achieve 33% profit margins when reselling to clients.
No verified white-label program. Client-facing surfaces including reports and dashboards display the RescueTime brand. You can resell the tool as a productivity add-on under your agency's service offering, but clients will see RescueTime branding in their timesheet reports and team dashboards.
Yes. RescueTime has native integrations with both Slack and Google Calendar. It also natively supports Trello, Asana, Jira, GitHub, Zoom, and Outlook, allowing teams to log time and view schedules without leaving those platforms.
Initial setup typically takes 15-30 minutes per client account once the agency parent account is configured. Each team member must install the RescueTime background agent on their device, which adds 5-10 minutes per person. Ongoing management involves configuring clients, projects, rates, and team access controls in the admin dashboard.
Creative agencies, marketing agencies, software development agencies, and professional services firms including legal, accounting, and architecture practices. Any client that bills by project or hourly rate and needs transparent time tracking and workload visibility will benefit from the tool.
RescueTime uses batch reporting. Time data is collected continuously but reports are generated on a scheduled basis (daily or weekly). The tool does not expose live API endpoints for real-time dashboard integrations, so custom real-time analytics require manual exports or third-party connectors.
Yes. Team+ includes a team weekly calendar view and timeline feature that shows which projects each person is assigned to and how much time they logged per project. You can use this to identify overallocation and rebalance workloads, though RescueTime does not calculate capacity utilization percentages automatically.
