The Standard AI plan costs $400/month and includes unlimited AI conversations, one human agent seat, and integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, and ActiveCampaign. Agency Audit
Olark trains an AI agent on your client's live website to answer visitor questions, qualify leads, and route conversations to human agents without code or logic trees. It integrates natively with HubSpot, Salesforce, and ActiveCampaign, making it a fit for agencies serving marketing teams, e-commerce brands, and educational institutions. The flat $400/month Standard AI plan includes unlimited AI conversations and one human agent seat, so agencies can resell per-client retainers at $500-$800/month with margin. Best for agencies already managing client websites and lead workflows; less suitable if your clients need deep custom routing or multi-language support.

Platform Features
Core capabilities of Olark
AI agent trained on live website content
Olark trains on your client's published website and documentation in under a minute without code, so the AI answers questions from current content rather than stale training data. If pricing or product info changes, the agent reflects that immediately.
Proactive visitor engagement
The AI detects behavioral signals (returning visitor, time spent on pricing page, referral source) and initiates conversations before the visitor asks for help, reducing objection handling time and improving conversion rates.
Lead qualification in natural conversation
Olark qualifies leads against custom criteria during chat, so your client's sales team receives pre-qualified contacts instead of raw inquiries. Captured lead data flows directly into HubSpot, Salesforce, or ActiveCampaign via native integrations.
Seamless handoff to human agents
Visitors can request a human agent mid-conversation and stay in the same chat thread; the Standard AI plan includes one human agent seat, with additional agents available at $29/month each.
Offline follow-up routing
When no human agent is available, Olark captures the visitor's contact info and routes the conversation to offline follow-up, ensuring no lead is lost outside business hours.
CRM integrations
Native integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, and ActiveCampaign allow lead data and conversation context to sync automatically, eliminating manual data entry and keeping your client's CRM current.
What Makes Olark Different
Unique advantages vs similar tools in this niche
Trains on your live site in about a minute, keeping answers current without manual updates
vs Chatbots that rely on static training data or manual knowledge basesThe agent learns from your current site and docs, so if pricing changes this morning, that's the answer it gives.
Flat pricing with unlimited AI conversations, no token costs
vs Usage-based AI chat tools that charge per token or conversationNo token costs, ever; pay for agents, not usage.
Same-thread human handoff preserves context
vs Chatbots that force visitors to restart or file a ticketEscalates into live chat in the same conversation, visitor never restarts or files a ticket.

Buy If
5Your clients use HubSpot or Salesforce and need lead data automatically captured and routed into their CRM without manual data entry.
Your clients are e-commerce stores or service businesses losing leads to slow response times, and you want to offer a 24/7 AI agent that qualifies visitors before routing to their sales team.
You manage 5+ client websites and need a single dashboard to monitor all Olark instances; Olark supports multiple sub-accounts under one parent account.
You want to offer a retainer service with predictable monthly cost (flat $400/month per client) rather than per-conversation or per-agent pricing.
Your clients have FAQ-heavy websites (SaaS, education, e-commerce) where an AI trained on their own content can reduce support ticket volume.
Skip If
5Your clients need advanced routing logic (e.g., route by visitor geography, product category, or custom business rules); Olark uses behavioral triggers and plain-English configuration, not logic trees, which may limit complex workflows.
Your clients operate in regulated industries requiring HIPAA or FedRAMP compliance; Olark publishes SOC2 Type I but does not advertise healthcare-specific certifications.
You need to white-label the chat widget entirely; Olark displays the Olark brand in the chat interface and does not offer a verified white-label program.
Your clients require multi-language support across 10+ languages; the scraped content does not mention language coverage or localization features.
You want to resell Olark as a standalone product without managing client onboarding; each client must grant Olark access to their website to train the AI, adding operational overhead.
Bottom Line
Reality Check
Olark's AI trains only on public website content and docs, so it cannot answer questions about internal systems, proprietary databases, or information not published online. Agencies must manage client onboarding separately (setup takes about a minute per site, but requires client access to their website). If a client cancels, you lose conversation history and trained data unless you export it beforehand.
Moderate effort: standard configuration with some customization needed

Why this category matters
The commercial case before the tooling.
Core concepts
The mental model you need to price and scope the work.
- Escalation Debt RatioConcept
Escalation Debt Ratio is the share of chatbot conversations that must reach a human before resolution, measured against the share the bot closes alone. Agencies sell the automation number; clients feel the escalation number. A bot that deflects 70% of inquiries but routes the remaining 30% into an unstaffed queue has not reduced client overhead, it has moved it. The ratio matters because retainer renewals track perceived response quality, not ticket volume. Forrester reports 83% of B2C marketing decision makers already work with AI agents, so clients now compare your bot against prior experience rather than against no bot at all. Configure handoff paths before launch: Chatling and FastBots both expose human handover controls, and WotNot pairs its builder with live chat for the same reason. Track the ratio monthly and price ongoing optimization into the retainer, because a bot left unmanaged drifts toward higher escalation as client offerings change.
- Handoff Fidelity ThresholdConcept
Handoff Fidelity Threshold is the point at which an AI chatbot must stop answering and route a conversation to a person. Most agencies sell automation as a coverage number, the share of inquiries a bot resolves without help, but the number that protects the retainer is how cleanly the unresolved share transfers. A bot that resolves 70% of questions and dumps the remaining 30% into a cold queue generates more client complaints than one resolving 55% with a warm handoff that carries transcript, intent, and customer history. Platforms differ here: Chatling and FastBots both ship human handoff as a first-class feature, while Chatbase leans on configurable guardrails and procedures to decide when an agent should stop. Forrester reports 83% of B2C marketing decision makers already work with AI agents, so clients now compare your handoff behavior against tools they have used themselves. Set the threshold per client, document it in the retainer scope, and review transcripts monthly.
- Containment CeilingConcept
The Containment Ceiling is the maximum share of inbound conversations a chatbot can resolve without human escalation before client satisfaction drops. Agencies that measure and price against this ceiling build defensible retainers; those that promise full automation set themselves up for churn. The framework has three inputs: intent coverage (how many question types the bot handles), escalation design (when and how it hands off), and knowledge freshness (how often client data changes). A bot trained on static PDFs may contain 60% of queries in month one but fall to 40% by month three as product details shift. Platforms like Chatling and FastBots expose handoff controls and analytics that make the ceiling visible. Forrester's finding that 83% of B2C marketers now use AI agents means clients expect containment, not perfection. Agencies should report containment rate monthly and treat every escalation as a data point for retainer expansion, not a failure.
Decision and risk
How to judge the fit, and the ways it goes wrong.
- When Chatbot Scope Spans Client-Facing Replies, Gate Autonomy Before You ResellEvaluation Rule
Classify every chatbot workflow by autonomy level before reselling it, and put a human checkpoint on anything that touches client-facing replies or CRM writes.
- Chatbot Resale Rule: Price the Escalation Path, Not the BotEvaluation Rule
Price every chatbot retainer with a funded escalation tier (named human owner, response window, and per-handoff cost) before you quote the automation itself.
- Managed Chatbot Retainer vs One-Off Bot BuildDecision Framework
IF a client treats customer conversations as an ongoing operating expense with recurring question volume, THEN sell a managed chatbot retainer that bundles deployment, knowledge-base upkeep, and monthly optimization. IF the client only wants a launch artifact and will not fund maintenance, THEN scope a fixed-fee build and hand over credentials, because an unmaintained bot degrades into a CX liability within a quarter.

What agencies say about Olark
“Great product / great service”
Cater Nation has worked w/ Olark these past 5 years and the service has been great for us and our customers, we get live chats every day that come in handy for our ordering customers who would prefer to chat online versus talk to us on the phone. It's all about being available for the customers the way they want to work with you! The service at Olark has been top notch, they practice what they preach by letting us chat timely w/ them at olark.com!
Read on Trustpilot“Good value, simple service”
This is a really easy to put live chat on your website. It's easy to install and use and relatively cheap. I'd recommend it.
Read on Trustpilot“Take it from a long time customer, there are better chat apps out there”
My company has been a customer of Olarks since 2015. In 2018, they began offering a two-year prepaid subscription for a reduced price per agent. We went with this plan to save money. Two weeks ago, we found Tidio chat, which offers MUCH cheaper chat plans (they even have a free level). We moved to Tidio and are saving over half the cost per month compared to Olark, and we have so many more features! When I asked for a refund from Olark, they said that with the two-year prepaid plan, they do not offer a refund, only a credit to your account. So beware! And know that there are better chat apps out there with much more robust features.

Answers about pricing, setup, implementation
Olark is an AI agent that trains on your client's website to answer visitor questions in real time, qualify leads against custom criteria, and route conversations to human agents in the same chat thread. It captures lead contact information proactively based on visitor behavior and hands off to offline follow-up when no human is available. The AI updates automatically as your client's website content changes, so answers are always current.
Olark offers 3 pricing tiers, at $400/mo per agent billed annually (Standard AI Website Agent). Agencies typically achieve 26% profit margins when reselling to clients.
No verified white-label program exists. Client-facing chat surfaces display the Olark brand, so you cannot present a fully branded chat experience to your clients' end users. You can resell Olark as a managed service under your own agency brand, but the chat widget itself will show Olark branding.
Yes. Olark has native integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, and ActiveCampaign. Lead data captured during chat (contact info, conversation context, qualification status) syncs automatically into your client's CRM, eliminating manual data entry.
Olark trains on a client's website in about one minute without code. However, the client must grant Olark access to their website first, so total onboarding time depends on how quickly your client can provide website credentials. Once trained, the AI is live and ready to engage visitors.
Olark works well for e-commerce brands (capturing bookings and product inquiries), marketing agencies (qualifying inbound leads), SaaS and service businesses (answering pre-sales questions), and educational institutions (supporting student inquiries and admissions). Any client with a website and FAQ-heavy content benefits from an AI trained on their own site.
Yes. Olark supports multiple sub-accounts under a parent agency account, so you can monitor and manage all client instances from a single dashboard. This simplifies billing, reporting, and support escalation across your client base.
Olark does not publish a data export or retention policy in the available content. Before canceling a client account, confirm with Olark support whether conversation history and trained data can be exported. If not, you may lose access to historical chat logs and the trained AI model.
